Nominations for 2009 MMA Awards Reception

2009 MMA Awards Reception
Saturday, Sept 12 at Wild Bill’s in Duluth
4 pm – 7 pm
Presented by GeorgiaFighters.com

GeorgiaFighters.com is planning the FIRST EVER GEORGIA MMA AWARDS RECEPTION for Saturday, Sept 12 at Wild Bill’s in Duluth, GA from 4 pm – 7 pm.

This is the first awards banquet of its kind for MMA in Georgia and we anticipate it being very successful.

In order to get started — WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Below is a working list of award winners for each category thus far. This is just a working list of names to nominate in each category.

PLEASE take a few minutes and add more suggestions to the list.

You can reserach past fights by going to www.GeorgiaBoxing.com then look in the “results” tab to the right to see results from MMA fights in Georgia in the past year. The dates that awards are being given out for are fights that took place between Sep 1, 2008 and July 31, 2009. Included in the fights are out of state fights as well. For example, if a local Georgia fighter fought out of state then as long as he/she is a resident of Georgia that fight can be nominated for an award. In other words, Forrest Griffin vs Rampage Jackson is eligible for Fight Of The Year as Forrest is a Georgia fighter. Brian Bowles is also eligible for awards although he has not fought in Georgia in some time now.

  21. I would have to agree with Mateo and several other “Posters”. I think this is great for the sport, but in its current form it really is just an internet popularity contest. Maybe in the coming years this will become a insiders vote award ceremony. Always growing and evolving I think it is a great start and no matter what happens it should produce a good turn out and possibly bring the fight community a little tighter.

  22. Jose E. Santiago says:

Mateo and Eric – you guys are right that the Fans Votes are a mix of a popularity contest and a vote of people that have hopefully been to a lot of fights. In response to that, we also are awarding a second award in every category titled Critics Choice Awards. You can see the link to it on the homepage here as it scrolls across the top as the main story.

The premise of it is that each promoter and matchmaker gets 1 vote. Then each gym gets two votes (I sent out the emails yesterday. Mateo, it should have gone to your email address and Eric it should have gone to Kristy’s email address). The deadline for replying to the emails is Sept 1 at noon. Once I receive all the emails I will count them and figure out the winner based on the Critics Awards and those winners will also receive a plaque and be rewarded at the banquet on Sat, Sept 12.

Amazingly, this awards banquet has already received more than 16,000 total votes! It’s obviously something that is being taken serious by many and a lot of people are excited about it. I think 95% of the comments about it have been positive, so hopefully it stays that way.

Of course any business venture that any of us do needs to be tweaked a little bit as time goes on, but I think we’re onto something good here that will be around for years to come!

Thank you guys so much for your support. Jose
