Stand up -anthony nieves for trainer of the year!
BJJ-Steve Headden for trainer of the year!
gym of the year Knuckle up fitness
I agree Anthony Nieves should be on this list for trainer of the year.
Cal Cooper also needs to be on the Hall of Fame list.
The Hall of Fame is something that really needs to be done because there are so many people that are responsible for the sport here in the state that many of the new generation of MMA fans may not even know about. This sport has grown so fast and changed so much, there are a lot of important people that need to be recognized and remembered.
Cam, that’s a very good point. We at georgiafighters.com anticipate that more than one person will be inducted into the hall of fame at the event. Thanks for the input!!
great idea guys, im pretty excited about this.
Miller Lite is all over MMA around here.
Got to give Wild Bills the best promoter award hands down. Fight Party isn’t what it used to be.
Sin City was probably the best event based on great time, besides UFC.
Dymond Vs Hester was an outstanding fight a Sin City, never sat down once, lost my voice for 3 days after that one!!
Ethan Garrison best draw.
Lizzie Miller at Wild Bills was best female fight.
Rory is the best manager.
Steve Headden for HOF, guy’s a local legend.
Also OBLAS for HOF and Andy Foster, Cal Cooper.
URARAHY at Fight Party, head kick after opponent didnt touch gloves. First kick = KO
I agree with Andy for HOF.
I think there needs to be some sort of timeline set, like for the rock n roll hall of fame where they can be eligible 25 years after the release of the first album. Oblas will definitely be there but first I think there are a LOT more people from many years ago that need to be recognized first.

Add Cam and Cal Cooper to the Hall of Fame list for sure.
Ethan Garrison to undefeated list.
There is an e on the end of Metcalfe, I think.
Uruahy’s headkick at G Arena for KO of the year.
Miller Lite and Jeff Chassner def sponsor of the year.
Oh yeah, and I have also done announcing for Yahya, and Adrian’s boxing events within the past year.
Remember this is MMA awards….why would Jacare be top of the list, if he doesnt allow his fighters to fight MMA?
Nominate Uhli Pohl for choking out drunken Douche Bag at Door 44.
Add Dr. John Keating’s name to the list of Hall Of Fame.
“Remember this is MMA awards….why would Jacare be top of the list, if he doesnt allow his fighters to fight MMA?”
His name is not at the top of the list for a specific reason, the list is in random order. Also, remember, it’s a Hall Of Fame list and concerns overall contributions to the sport here in the state, not just what they are doing now or have done in the past few years. Jacare and his school was a pivotal lynchpin in the history of MMA in GA starting in 1996.
Some of the newer fans have no idea who some of the people are they see and work with every day and what their contributions to the sport are/were starting over 15 years ago. This is exactly why some of these people need to be recognized before their contributions are swept away into the obscurity of time and the ever-changing face of the sport.
There are other people that will surely be in the Hall Of Fame such as Oblas, The Singers and many others but these people’s legacy are just getting started and people like Oblas and the Singers are not going anywhere for a while so their legacy is cemented. Let’s go ahead and get these old school guys the recognition they deserve.
MMA was going on in GA for a long time before TUF started and the GAEC took over here in the state. The sport has a long and rich history that many newer fans don’t even know about.
Just my two cents.
Cam
I agree with Cam in recognizing people from years ago.
With that being said, I think Cam’s name should be in there as well.
I think this first inauguration should have about 5-10 people in it then each year after this about 3-5 people per class.
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.. I’m just taking a little break.
I have done 3 shows this year, and for the purpose of the year in question for nominating purposes. Weedman vs. Stout was the highest non UFC PAID attendance in the state in the past year. I promise to reestablish my relevance in the near future.
Miller lite is def sponsor of the year. They not only sponsor a lot of shows, but they also sponsor several local fighters..
most improved fighter and undefeated warren thompson
fight of the year Warren Thompson vs Terry Cohens @ cowboys
Im willing to bet “BIlly’s” last name is Oblas, Mudder, or someone similar…thats an awefully one sided post, with personal jabs at good people.
most improved fighter of the year and doesnt get any damn credit is WARREN THOMPSON..REPSENTING THE OAK GROVE BABY…L-TOWN SOUTH CAROLINA…JUST GIVE A SHOT …HE HAS GOT THE HEART OF A LION …HELL HE WONT BACK DOWN FROM NOBODY…LIKE I SAID GIVE THE BOY A SHOT….AND HELL WITH KIMBO SLICE …FIRST TIME HE IS IN THE RIMG IF HE ACTUALLY FIGHTS SOMEONE NOT OVER THE HILL …EITHER KNOCK OUT OR SUMBTTIED IN THE 2 ROUND….GO GET WARREN G
OH YEAH AND WARREN THOMPSON IS STILL UNDEFEATED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ethan Garrison for most improved fighter of the year as well. sure he beats everyone up on the ground but his last fight everyone saw his newly aquired stand up game. wow Ethan can head kick. who knew.
Guys, we need more suggestions for awards please.

i thought i was special getting 6 free tickets! damn you!
Ok people, whether if David Oblas is shady.. I don’t know and really don’t care. This awards ceremony is just as much my idea as it is Davids. My credibility cannot come into question. For those of you that know me, I have nothing monetary to gain from this event. I just thought it would be cool to celebrate what the fighters in Georgia have done. A way to recognize those people involved in the MMA scene in GA and continue the great comradery (sp). I will not allow my reputation to go in the tank and please know that I will be involved from beginning to end to ensure that the winners based on votes received by georgiafighters.com readers.

well jose if your going to censor the comments, you should censor ALL negative comments, which badmouth other promoters like “Billy”
“Mark E Mark” I missed Billy’s, but got rid of it too. I just wish people would use their real names when posting!! You know what I mean “Mark”? Point well taken though, “Billy” made some personal attacks so I got rid of his too. I hate wearing a comments police badge, but I guess that the nature of owning a site that allows comments. I think I’ll just leave things up going forward. Maybe I’ll create an award called “The Best Comment Police” and give it to myself.

For the Undefeated Club we are going to give an Award to all undefeated pro fighters in Georgia. Please list all of them so they can all receive an Award. Thank you.
No thanks Jose, Id rather have the opportunity to get fights in the future but thanks.
Too much emphasis on being undefeated makes fighters get pickier with who they fight….its not really how many you beat, its WHO you beat.
I think Cam should be nominated for Hall of Fame.
Guy has been around forever and still is making a big impact on the sport.
i would just like to say 1st that no one in the wild bills promotion gig is shady ive been around awhile and they are all good people and i have to say best fight of the year was the lizzy miller fight at wild bills it was better than any male fight i saw this year .
most improved fighter is cameron naville just my .02
i agree with mark dont hand pick
Jacob DelaRosa is undefeated at 3-0.
Paul Thatcher for Journalist/Hall of Fame. Been around for years and takes excellent pictures.
Im not sure if there should be an Undefeated club yes im 4-0 pro and will fight whomever and do my very best i can do.but come on we need to set a limit to this award in my oppinion. now if im 10-0 next year and i keep fighting game opponents then give me something. i appreciate the gesture everyone but when i dont deserve something i feel i need to earn it.
Wild Bill’s presented us with what turned out to be the loudest most energetic, pounding display of true warrior fighting on 4/17/09 in the first ever FEMALE PRO MMA fight. My vote for fight of the year….Tonya Reyes vs Lizzy Miller. and oh I would never miss this rematch I would go anywhere to see it!
warren thompson for undefeated fighter

I would have to agree with Mateo and several other “Posters”. I think this is great for the sport, but in its current form it really is just an internet popularity contest. Maybe in the coming years this will become a insiders vote award ceremony. Always growing and evolving I think it is a great start and no matter what happens it should produce a good turn out and possibly bring the fight community a little tighter.
Mateo and Eric – you guys are right that the Fans Votes are a mix of a popularity contest and a vote of people that have hopefully been to a lot of fights. In response to that, we also are awarding a second award in every category titled Critics Choice Awards. You can see the link to it on the homepage here as it scrolls across the top as the main story.
The premise of it is that each promoter and matchmaker gets 1 vote. Then each gym gets two votes (I sent out the emails yesterday. Mateo, it should have gone to your email address and Eric it should have gone to Kristy’s email address). The deadline for replying to the emails is Sept 1 at noon. Once I receive all the emails I will count them and figure out the winner based on the Critics Awards and those winners will also receive a plaque and be rewarded at the banquet on Sat, Sept 12.
Amazingly, this awards banquet has already received more than 16,000 total votes! It’s obviously something that is being taken serious by many and a lot of people are excited about it. I think 95% of the comments about it have been positive, so hopefully it stays that way.
Of course any business venture that any of us do needs to be tweaked a little bit as time goes on, but I think we’re onto something good here that will be around for years to come!
Thank you guys so much for your support. Jose
