Local headhunter Tim Stout is only a few days away from headlining yet another Atlanta fight card as he is set to face off against Terry Cohens this Friday night at the Georgia World Congress Center.
Stout took time out of his fight week to sit down with GeorgiaFighters.com for a Q and A.
Official Weigh-ins for Kings of the Verizons is set for 4 pm on Thursday at World Congress Center Exhibit Hall A
GeorgiaFighters.com: Tim, you’re coming off a first round TKO loss to Brent Weedman and you haven’t fought in seven months. How have you changed your training?
Tim Stout: I have been focusing on my week points moreso than my strong points. I have been training with Roberto Traven at Unit 2 working on my BJJ and with Jeff Beudreax on my wrestling.
I feel much more well rounded as a fighter at this point and I feel really good right now going into Friday’s fight.
GeorgiaFighters.com: What is the name of your opponent and what do you know about him?
Tim Stout: I am fighting Terry Cohens; don’t know much about him except that he is a heavy handed brawler.
GeorgiaFighters.com: You’re in the main event of this fight night Friday night at the Georgia World Congress Center. Does being the main event change your outlook on the event at all?
Tim Stout: No, I fight as if I am the main event at every show…
GeorgiaFighters.com: We’ve been told this fight is for a title belt. Do you know what belt this fight is for?
Tim Stout: This is for the 185lb title for the new promotion Light Out Productions. This is their first show in Atlanta and I hear they are planning on doing a title fight on each one of their upcoming shows. I am glad to have the opportunity to fight for their first title.
GeorgiaFighters.com: You’re primarily known as a striker and thus one of Atlanta’s most exciting fighters as indicated by your record where you’ve only had one fight go the distance in 17 pro fights. What is it about the standup game that you enjoy so much?
Tim Stout: With the standup game opponents don’t have an option to quit they just go to sleep. You know who wins there is no ifs ands or buts about it.
GeorgiaFighters.com: Back in Tennessee you used to work with kids. Talk about that for a moment.
Tim Stout: Most rewarding job I have ever had, I worked with troubled kids. It was a rewarding feeling to help kids who no one else would help.
GeorgiaFighters.com: Outside of fighting, what else are you doing these days?
Tim Stout: I enjoy teaching and coaching other fighters. I work with my team, TEAM MOAB which consists of about 20 amateur fighters in Georgia.
GeorgiaFighters.com: Is it correct that you’re moving from 170 lbs to 185 lbs for this fight? How do you expect that to effect you?
Tim Stout: Yes, I expect the cut to be easier and I can train harder bc I don’t have to cut calories. I am not weak for 185 so I don’t think that strength will be an issue.
GeorgiaFighters.com: Do you think you’re looking past this fight at all as you already have another fight booked for Oct 23?
Tim Stout: Not at all. All fighters are dangerous and I took the fight on Oct 23rd based upon the condition that I would be healthy and not injured due to the fight on Oct 2nd.
The opportunity presented itself to fight Roger Carroll who I was supposed to fight last month but the show was cancelled so I took it.
GeorgiaFighters.com: You’ve had 17 pro fights, you’ve tried out for The Ultimate Fighter tv show, you’ve headlined several shows. Where do you see yourself in a year, two years and five years as a fighter?
Tim Stout: One Year: I’d like to be in the UFC or another big organization.
Two Years: Depends on whether or not I’ve achieved my year one goal.
Five Years: On my way out of MMA as a fighter and taking TEAM MOAB to the highest level!
