Unfortunately in the history of Georgia Fighters we’ve now had to report on three previous deaths of our own (John Grantham, Adrienne Simmons and Vernon Forrest). Now we’ve got the awful task of reporting that Sherri Thompson has passed away.
Sherri has been an integral part of the MMA, boxing and kickboxing community in Atlanta for the past 10 plus years.
She has been a fighter, trainer, gym manager and has helped nearly every gym over the years. She has helped groom many of today’s top fighters into what they currently are.
While the details are not known at this point, please leave your comments below in respect to Sherri and her family. All that we know as of now is that she was found in her apartment this morning passed away.
In the past the comments for John Grantham, Adrienne Simmons and Vernon Forrest reached into the hundreds on GeorgiaFighters.com and the families and friends told us they printed the pages off to remember them by. We’re hoping the Georgia community can do such yet again.

RIP Sherry, Very Sad and tragic… Prayers up!! You will be missed.
To live in the hearts of those we love is never to die. Rest in peace Sherri…you will be missed.
I am Heart Broken. You will be missed and remembered always.
I am completely stunned and really don’t know what to say. I’ve known Sherri for about a dozen years, way before I thought I could be involved in this business, way before I trained, way back when I was fan boy.
Sherri was ALWAYS there, and Sherri was always a great friend. Sherri was always there and supportive of all of us, through our losses and our triumphs. I am completely blown away.
Atlanta has lost one of it’s very best, funniest and truest people. Atlanta has lost a lot today, we all have.
Terrible, just terrible.
She was always up beat and looking to help her fighters out. You will be missed.
So hard to take it right now..She will be greatly missed and will forever remain in everyones heart
Very Sad.
Sherri was a great martial artist and an even better person, as well as the only woman that ever called me “Princess.” You will be greatly missed Ms. Thompson..
-Princess
I met her briefly only twice, but we were friends on facebook. An epic sense of humor. I also loved her tenacity for defending animals and speaking truth.
“anyone feel like taking an ass whooping?” Was the last thing she said on FB.
A terrible loss. She will be missed.
This is truly tragic. I barely knew her but respected her greatly. The only woman I knew of that got that had a man attempt to rob her at the ATM machine only to have her chase him and kick his ass. You will be remembered and missed Sherri.
This is such a tragedy, Sherri was such an awesome personality. Always in good spirits and always able to bring a smile to any ones face. Not to mention a great trainer/fighter. She will missed by all. R.I.P. Sherri.
I met Sherri once while she was doing a seminar with Jon and Byron Bloodworth. They were showing me how one of the instructors was telling people to train for blocking punches by spelling letters with their elbow (pointed out, hands on head). It is something that I will always remember. My condolences to her family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. RIP Sherri, you will be missed, even by people you spent time with for a few hours.
Sherri was THE team mother of the fight community in Atlanta, no matter who’s team you were on. She always was there to take care of and help out anyone that needed anything! Always quick to smile….and to tell you to suck it up and train harder. Sherri has been a huge part of the fight community before there even was a fight community!
Atlanta lost so much today. So devastating. She will absolutely be missed by so many people in so many ways.
My heart goes out to Sherri’s family. She will be missed greatly.
Wow. Bringing it from way back in High School cheerleading…one of the most memorable people you’d meet. Period. My condolences to family and close friends
I’ve known Sherri for more than 10 years. Back to when I used to take her cardio kickboxing classes at the old LA Boxing in the Prado on Roswell Road. Then after the classes we’d talk in the parking lot for an hour each time. She was always full of smiles.
I had been to her apartment once and it was about a year ago. Every room in her apartment is covered with fight posters, fight flyers, fight photos, laminated neckbadges, etc. You can’t go 3 inches in her apartment and not see something fight related on the walls.
No matter how much anyone else in Georgia is involved in the fight scene, she loved it more than any of us. And she loved the PEOPLE involved in the fight scene more than anyone I know.
She will be missed.
I loved reading Sherri’s post on facebook, she was funny, fiesty, and always motivated. I will miss her presence and spirit.
smiles genuine….hugs genuine….laughter genuine! The sincerity of her kind heart & intentions have never been questioned due to the simple fact she was so sincere! My love & prayers go out to all of her family that is forced to deal with this terrible situation :’(.
All my love ,
Kimberly
That is horrible news… my condolences to her friends and family..
I knew Sherri for over 10 years, always a fan, during her fighting days and her never ending charisma. She will be greatly missed.
Sherri was the striking coach and a trainer at our gym. She trained my son in stand up and impacted his and all our lives in a positive way. Sherri is one of the truest souls I have ever met and I know the worlds loss is Heaven’s gain. Rest in Peace Kru…
Rest i’n peace you will be missed. And my prayers go out for you and your family
sherri was a great person and friend. her ability to be nuetral in this fight game with all the drama is something i really admired about her. she could care less what people thought and was a strong women. I will mis most the trash talking we did every time she would come in the gym to train. allways fun to talk with her. RIP Sherri
Rest in peace, Sherri. It was an honor for me and my brother, Nhan, to have worked your corner back in the early 2000′s. You will be missed, and God bless you.
I very sorry to hear this. I never got to meet her in person, but her post on facebok always brought a smile to my face…RIP ST
Man, she was really a special person. One of the few amazing women that I’ve ever met. Type of person that once you meet her you will never forget. God Bless
Rest in peace, our prayers are with your family and friends
R.I.P. Sherri will be loved and missed forever …. I would not be where I am today with out the influance she had on ME!!!! God Bless all her friends and family !!!! I will be praying for you all in this time of sorrow!

You will be missed Sherri.. Very sad that good people like you get taken away from here at such an early age…
Such a tragedy. RIP “Sherri-The-Bitch-Thompson”, you were truly one badass!
A horrible loss. Sheri is a great person and will missed by anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. God needed a mma trainer to train his army from the heavens above, he got an outstanding one. You will be missed. R.I.P. Ms. Thompson!!
Have known you since you were in high school and all the old White Water Branson days. An Awesome spirit RIP and know you will be missed and heaven is celebrating your arrival.
RIP Sherri! You were a great woman and an amazing coach! I really enjoyed all the time that we got to spend together training. You will be missed very much. I know we will meet again one day!
Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends….
I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of Sherri. As you can see by the outpouring of support, she touched so many lives and meant so much to so many people. Our prayers are with her family and friends. She will be greatly and truly missed.
Sherri and I lost touch a few years back due to complicated circumstances…she was one of my first coaches and always dedicated any extra time to me…She was always willing to give her all in training and fighting…She was one of the few people people that were right there for me through it all…wish it didn’t end like this and always thought of you and the many fun days and nights we had as friends…miss you girlie…
Such a tragic loss indeed. It was a pleasure knowing you the couple of years that I was able to. Always full of joy, unless you made her mad then it was pure snake venom. But that’s why she made so many friends. You truly will be missed by everyone that knew you and my heart goes out to your family and loved ones. God speed and rest in peace Queen B……
That’s a loss for the whole community. I’m sorry to hear about it
Sherri was my neighbor. I never knew her but after meeting her family I wish I had taken gotten to know her better.
Sherri was my baby girl, I don’t know how to ever let go, I miss her like crazy, thank you your posts they help me get thru the day when all I want to do is scream and curl up in a ball and die. I
