Nominations NOW Open for Georgia Fighters Awards Banquet: Sat, Dec 15!

Nominations for 2012 MMA and Boxing Awards Reception

2012 MMA and Boxing Awards Reception
Saturday, Dec 15 at Wild Bill’s
5 pm – 8 pm
Presented by Georgia Fighters
Admission gets you into the evening’s Wild Bill’s Fight Night #51 for free

Georgia Fighters has set the date of Saturday, Dec 15 for the Fourth Annual MMA and Boxing Awards Reception. This is the only awards reception of its kind in the state of Georgia and is used to recognize those that have positively contributed to the sports in the past year.

The reception will take place from 5 pm – 8 pm in the Crown Room of Wild Bill’s prior to Wild Bill’s Fight Night #51.

Immediately after the Awards Banquet ends, Wild Bill’s Fight Night will begin. Since this is the free Wild Bill’s Fight Night to benefit Toys For Tots, anyone that is inside during the banquet will be allowed to stay for the fights for free. We do STRONGLY ENCOURAGE you to bring one new, unwrapped toy to benefit Toys For Tots. If you’d like to upgrade to a seat for the fights, you may purchase fight tickets at the banquet.

The online voting has increased dramatically through the years for the Georgia Fighters awards. In 2009 we had more than 42,000 online votes, in 2010 we had more than 58,000 online votes and 2011 increased to more than 120,000 votes! The online voting will start in a few weeks for the categories, but NOW is your time to make your nominations for each category.

There will be two categories for each award – a Fan’s Vote which is voted online and a Critics Pick where we will rely on MMA, kickboxing and boxing insiders to cast their votes.

In order to get started — WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Below is the list of award categories.

PLEASE take a few minutes and add your nominations to the list. Please help us spread the word via facebook and other online outlets, but please note that ONLY nominations on the GeorgiaFighters.com website will be considered.

You can research past MMA and boxing fights by going to www.sos.ga.gov/gaec then look in the “results” tab to the right to see results from MMA and Boxing fights in Georgia in the past year. You can also use www.MMA.tv for past MMA fights and www.Boxrec.com for past Boxing fights.

The dates that awards are being given out for are fights that took place between October 1, 2011 and October 1, 2012.

  1. Eddie says:

Coach of the Year- Manu Ntoh

Most Influential Persons of the Year- Manu Ntoh

    Lifetime Achievement Award- Manu Ntoh

Muay Thai Male Fighter- Chike Lyndsey

Muay Thai Male Fight of the Year- Stephen Richards vs Cyrus Washington

Muay Thai Female Fighter- Moe Travis

  2. Blah Thai says:

Seems like the MMA category should be MMA/thai. Just not enough thai to go round.

Male is only Eddie walker. Female is just moe and Mary.

Do we really need categories for them? Just make MMA/thai one. Please.

Plus there’s no MMA girls, so that’ll be thai by default

  3. Ken says:

Isn’t the only girl MMA moe (1-0) and the only female thai moe and Mary? So if we split up thai and MMA then moe wins MMA with no comp and Mary should win thai? I agree to absorb MMA and thai like guy above said.

But what do I know? I’m the worst judge in Georgia :)

  4. David Oblas says:

    Here’s my nominations:

    Muay Thai Categories

    7. Fight of the Year: Dana King vs Josh Lening? I can’t think of others.
    19. Knockout Of the Year: Brett Chism vs Dave Vitkay?
    14. Breakthrough Fighter: Alan Gigolaev
    15. Best Local MMA Brand: Wild Bill’s Fight Night
    18. Lifetime Achievement Award: In 3 years we’ve never given to an outta towner…but damn Ronnie Rogers? Dude is SC but fights here in GA non-stop and is a gamer. Thoughts? Dude has fought 13x at Wild Bill’s and at least 15x in Georgia.

Can we get a list of the Hall of Fames again? I didn’t want to nominate anyone that had won in past years.

And to my clients, I was as impartial as I could be. That’s why there are some blanks on my nominations above.

I added a few extra categories!

And to absorb the thai category into MMA is just a F#@king insult!.
There were some phenomenal Thai fights this year, but maybe you two were to busy hoping someone would scoop and slam their opponent all WWE style to pay attention to artistry over the last 12mo.

Chike for President by the way!
