Ethan Garrison Speaks!

This past week, GeorgiaFighters.com got a chance to catch up with one of the most respected, hard working and well liked Atlanta based pro fighters, Ethan Garrison.
For the average fan out there Garrison may not sound too familiar; largely due to his humble nature. However, with an unbeaten record of 6-0 and a 5 year veteran of the sport, he is the type of fighter who prefers to do his talking and promoting in the ring with a vast submission arsenal and over powering attacking style. This approach has resulted in most of his fights ending within the first round by vicious ground and pound or submission.

Garrison is also a coach of his own MMA Team, and is currently the a mentor and training partner of the fast up and rising Warren Thompson.

Ethan how long you been training?
7 years

Your Fight weight is 205 Lbs Have you ever fought at heavyweight?
I did one at 215Lbs

What is your record?
I am 6-0 Pro

How long did you train before you had your first fight?
2 years

What do you usually think about the night of your fight?
I think about eating at IHOP afterwards.

You’ve been to two Ultimate fighter tryouts, tell us a little about that experience and what happened?
The tryouts were a great experiences, I met a bunch of good fighters and I made it through both try-outs, except each time my weight division was dropped with the UFC not letting us know before we went out there.

Not many people know this, but you’ve also helped Michael Bisping get ready for a fight at his gym in England, and you ended up spending a couple of weeks out there and attending the UFC event in England
Which fight was that for?

I linked up with him through a mutual coach, unfortunately I am not in contact with them any longer, but It was a great training experience. The fight I helped train Michael for was for his UFC 85 Fight, when his opponent was Jason Day.

You just got back from a training session in Vegas, which gyms were you training at and with who?
I trained in several gyms while in Vegas; I trained at Randy Courture’s gym, Robert Drysdale gym, and at Warrior. I had the opportunity to train with Forrest Griffin, Randy Courture, Frank Muir, Todd Duffy, Jay Heiron, Vinnie Magalhaes and group of Good Coaches (Brian and Ron).

What did you think of the caliber of guys out there? And do you think there is much difference in the way the guys in Georgia are training compared to the training methods being used out there?
The training is the same here as it is out there, it is just the caliber of people you are just training with that is different.

Now the good news for the fans here in Georgia is you’ve got a fight coming up soon in Atlanta! When? ,Where? And who are you fighting?
I am fighting Friday the 13th of Nov, at Center Stage and I am fighting Chase Minor.

Something that is new to a lot of fighters ,but you have been with a professional strength and conditioning coach for awhile already, who is he and how did you guys get linked up?
His name is Jerry Collett, we met through a mutual friend.

You are also a MMA coach and instructor of your own team, with some pretty up and coming guys in your team! Who should we keep an eye on?
Warren and I have a bunch of up and coming fighters, but Jacob Hebisen and Chris Dellerba are on the top of the list.

Where is Ethan Garrison in 2 years from now?
I really don’t know.

Ethan we’d like to thank you again for taking the time with us. Along with that, thank you again for your contribution to our sport locally and we wish you all the success you deserve.
You’re welcome.
