Blow-by-blow report by: Joe Russo for NextMMAFighter.com
Wild Bills and Undisputed Productions put on another great show last night with a very closely contested main event battle. Here is the full play by play from our cageside correspondent Joe Russo.
Fight 1 – 147lbs: Amateur MMA | Kolby Plant 0-1 (American Submission Academy) Vs. Franklin Twiggs 1-0 (Rodruiguez MMA)
Round 1 : Kolby comes out swinging and they’re both flying around the ring. Franklin throws a few high kicks and then they exchange punches. Franklin lands a huge high kick that sends Kolby to the ground but Kolby quickly gets up and lands a flurry of blows, then dazing Franklin. Kolby shoots in for a takedown and gets Franklin to the canvas as he lands in full mount. Franklin turns over giving up his back as Kolby continues to apply pressure. Franklin leaves an arm out, allowing Kolby to attempt an armbar as he is able to get some good pressure on it but Franklin isn’t giving it up just yet. Franklin tries to reposition and get out from under Kolby, but this allows Kolby to get the armbar in a bit deeper, finally forcing Franklin to tap with 2:15 left in round 1.
Kolby Plant wins by submission (Armbar) @ 2:15 in R1
Fight 2 – 160lbs: Amateur MMA | John Brown 1-0 (Thunderhouse MMA) Vs. Brandon Longano 0-0 (Iron Clutch Fitness)
Round 1 : Brandon Longano is making his amateur debut, but already has the ink of a seasoned fighter. The fighters touch gloves and Longano is quick to throw a few knees from the clinch. They lock up and Brown is using every ounce of energy to get Longano to the ground. Longano keeps unloading with knees as he eventually takes Brown down and gets to full mount. Brandon brings some big body shots from the top position. As they inch around on the canvas, Brown is holding him close but Longano keeps piling on the body blows. Brown’s corner is yelling at him to hook the leg but it’s not really helping. Brown finally manages to twist around and takes Longano’s back. With a few seconds left in the round the fighers break and are both up no their feet. Longano is able to get in a few knees as the bell sounds ending round 1. I have the round going 10-9 to Longano.
Round 2 : Brown comes out and lands a nice right hook, but Longano quickly counters with some knees. Longano briefly goes for a guillotine but just as fast they’re both back up on their feet. After a quick exchange Brandon takes Brown to the ground and finds a way to his back. Longano is able to get his forearm deep under Brown’s chin, forcing him to tap to the RNC 45 seconds into the 2nd round.
Brandon Longano wins by submission (Rear Naked Choke) @ :45 of R2
Fight 3 – 177lbs: Amateur MMA | Gabe Leatherman 4-1-1 (Legacy Fight Club) Vs. Dudley Spence 5-0 (Old School Gym)
Round 1 : Leatherman walks out to Rush and Dudley is a little more country. The fighters start off circling each other and exchange a few brief strikes. From out of nowhere Leatherman lands a huge left head kick to Dudley’s cheek, sending him to the canvas for the KO 35 seconds into round 1. KO of the night without question, Holy crap.
Gabe Leatherman wins by KO (Left Head Kick) @ :35 of R1
Fight 4 – 149lbs: Amateur MMA | Clay Haley 3-0 (Thunderhouse MMA) Vs. John Bloodworth 3-2 (Iron Clutch Fitness)
Round 1 : Bloodworth starts off with a wild roundhouse and Haley checks with a leg kick and then goes for the takedown, which is stuffed. After a brief exchange, Haley takes Bloodworth down onto the mat and lands in guard. They make their way to the edge of the ring and are stood up. Bloodworth is the aggressor this time and after a few punches shoots in for the takedown. As they go to the mat, Haley twists him over and takes a dominant position. Haley almost finds the guillotine but they are too close to the edge of the ring and the ref stands them up once again, bringing the first round to a close.
Round 2: The fighters start off with a clinch, break up and then exchange a few kicks. The ref briefly stops the fight to inspect Bloodworth’s gloves. After the stop they’re back and Haley shoots in for a takedown, which is unsuccessful. After a few exchanges, the fighters clinch up again and Haley is able to make the most of it as the clinch breaks, landing a few nice punches. This transitions into Haley taking Bloodworth to the ground from behind, taking his back. Bloodworth can’t handle the relentless attack and Haley is able to knock him out with a series of right hooks to Bloodworth’s right ear 1:54 into round 2.
Clay Haley wins by TKO (Punches) @ 1:54 of R2
Fight 5 – 117lbs: Amateur MMA | Ivey Turner 1-1 (Legacy Fight Club) Vs. Moe Travis 0-0 (Knuckle Up Fitness)
Round 1 : Travis starts off with a leg kick and Turner returns with a series of punches as Travis defends. They clinch and Moe is able to land a few knees before taking Turner to the ground and into full mount. Moe moves the mount up a bit higher and tries to control Turner’s right arm. Travis isn’t quite sure what to do from this position and turns Turner around, searching for the arm bar. Travis then transitions into a kimura and is leveraging for the sub but quickly lets go, returning to the full mount. Turner kicks out with her hips and is able to sweep to the guard of Travis. Turner lets go and the round comes to a close. I have it 10-9 Travis.
Round 2: Turner comes out punching and Travis quickly finds the clinch. The fighters trade knees and Travis is able to take Ivey to the ground and into half guard once again. Travis quickly passes and takes the high full mount much like the first round. Again, Travis isn’t really sure what to do from here and resorts to isolating an arm. She’s got it this time though and almost has the sub but Turner is able to get out of it leaving Turner in Travis’s full guard. Travis is still trying to isolate Turner’s right arm as they move around on the mat. Turner is able to land a few body blows before the round ends. 10-9 Travis once again from my seat.
Round 3: After some sparring, Travis is able to grapple and take Ivey to the canvas as she lands in half guard. Travis is trying to free her left leg and take it to full mount, but Turner isn’t letting it go while landing a few good body punches. Travis is eventually able to get the leg out and has Turner in the full guard. Turner turns her hip and gets out as the fighers stand it back up. Both are a bit tired at this point, with their defenses waning they trade some heavy blows with Travis getting the best of it. Turner goes for the single leg but is unsuccessful. They clinch up and trade a few knees. Travis is able to land a left hook as Turner is concentrating on body shots. As the third round comes to a close, Travis is punching into Ivey’s high defense. Travis takes this round 10-9 again.
Moe Travis wins by Decision, 30-27
Fight 6 – 137lbs: Pro MMA | Jesse Wable 0-1 (Full Throttle Fitness) Vs. Andrew Higgins 4-4 (Independent)
Wable starts off the fight running across the ring and jumps high into Higgins’s grasp, grabbing the guillotine. Higgins holds him up for about 15 seconds before taking it to the ground and breaking the choke. Higgins gets into Wable’s full guard and lands a few nice blows. Wable is able to cut Higgins’s forehead on the exchange but that doesn’t deter Higgins as he is able to stay in guard and maneuver into a deep D’Arce choke, forcing Wable to tap 2 minutes into the first round.
Andrew Higgins wins by submission (D’Arce Choke) @ 2:00 of R1
Fight 7 – 176lbs: Pro MMA | Dustin Chovanic 7-3 (Legacy Fight Club) Vs. Shawn Snow 6-8 (Valdosta Martial Arts Center)
As the fight begins, Chovanic shoots in for a single leg attempt. As Snow attempts to stuff the takedown their heads collide. Both fighters seem to go out for a moment but Snow is the first to recover. Capitalizing on the situation he mounts Chovanic and begins unloading left hooks, one after another. The fight is called after 17 seconds as Chovanic is clearly dazed and defenseless to the repeated blows.
Shawn Snow wins by TKO (punches) @ :17 into R1
Fight 8 – 190lbs: Pro Muay Thai | Adrian Miles (Miles Freestyle Academy) Vs. Dymond Jones (Unit 2 Fitness)
CANCELLED due to Jones failing to pass his pre-fight vision test.
Fight 9 – 160lbs: Pro MMA | Ronnie Rogers 10-7 (HIT Squad) Vs. Joe Elmore 5-4 (X3 Sports)
Round 1 : Rogers starts the fight off with a few kicks that are checked and both fighters try to land spinning back fists. Elmore is able to land a nice body kick that has Rogers backing up towards the ropes. They dance around for a bit as Elmore throws a head kick and loses his balance. Once hes back on his feet Joe then charges with a flying knee and the fighters are stuffed into the corner. Elmore takes the dominant position and lands a few knees to the body. Rogers is able
to grab a guillotine and drops to the ground with it. Elmore gets out of the choke and lands a huge head kick as Rogers is still low to the ground. Rogers amazingly shakes it off and they trade a few more blows as they crash into the ropes. The fighters posture for position and then break up. Elmore tries for a few flying knees again that miss their mark and Rogers retaliates with leg kicks. They square off again in the center of the ring and Elmore is able to land a nice hook combination. Rogers goes in for the takedown and Elmore catches him in a choke as they hit the canvas. The bell rings and the two fighters go back to their corners. I have the round 10-9 for Elmore.
Round 2 : The round begins with both fighters posturing in the center of the ring. Rogers tries a roundhouse kick and follows it up with a bullrush into the ropes. Elmore checks with a kick and Rogers catches it for a moment. Both fighters are throwing some heavy punches but none of them seem to hit their marks. Both are starting to show signs of fatigue as they are really trying to give the fans an exciting main event. Joe comes in with a nice left and Rogers circles around to avoid further punishment. Elmore lands a combination of blows and transitions it into a choke. Rogers gets out of it and establishes a choke of his own and follows it up with a nice knee that leaves Elmore dazed. Both fighters are back on their feet and trading blows as Rogers shoots for a takedown but Elmore catches him momentarily in a choke once again as they both fall to the ground. After some grappling on the mat to try and gain a dominant position they’re both back up on their feet and the ref calls time to recover Elmore’s mouthpiece. As the fight resumes Elmore is able to land a nice jab and follows it up with a failed takedown. A few errant kicks are thrown by both fighters as the second round comes to a close. Rogers takes this close round in my eyes 10-9.
Round 3 : The fighters touch gloves and acknowledge each other for a great fight so far at the start of the round, they are right as this has been a great one. Rogers is able to land a nice right hook but after that Joe becomes the aggressor, landing a few kicks. There’s a brief rumble on the mat and then the fighters get back to their feet. Clearly tired, they go to the ground again with Rogers in side control. Rogers kicks over a leg, going into half guard, and then back over again into side control. Rogers is almost able to secure an armbar but Elmore is able to wiggle out of it as the exchange leaves Elmore on top in side control. Pressing on, Elmore moves it into half guard with Rogers trying to hold him close. Trying to jump over into full guard, Rogers is able to sweep Elmore and they are both back on their feet. After a brief exchange Rogers shoots in for a takedown that is stuffed. Both of the fighter’s guards are down and they start trading punches on their feet. Elmore eventually takes Rogers down and gets his back. Elmore is still hanging on Rogers’s back as the bell rings, ending a fantastic main event with the crowd on their feet. I score the final round 10-9 for Elmore.
Joe Elmore wins by Decision, 29-28
