In a battle against Urijah Faber, Atlanta’s Raphael Assuncao fell short of upsetting the hometown favorite.
The first round proved that Assuncao was not to be overlooked as he went toe to toe with Faber in a very close round where neither fighter was able to take control. The round could have been scored for either way.
In the second, Faber was able to land the first meaningful punch by either combatant. Dropping Assuncao with a quick counter right Faber was able to initiate his famous ground and pound with quick elbows forcing Assuncao to work off his back.
In the third it was evident that the momentum was in Faber’s corner. Much to Assuncao’s credit he came out aggressively and was doing well in the round. Halfway through the round Assuncao attempted to get to his feet after losing control to Faber again. In the shuffle, Faber was able to capitalize with a rear naked choked forcing Assuncao to tap out.
Much to his credit, Assuncao did prove that he belongs with the very best. Throughout the fight he held his own and kept cool under pressure. We look forward to seeing Assuncao as he bounces back in pursuit of the WEC title.

Great fight bro, you a warrior Raphael
